Fords London Dry Gin

Fords Gin is a modern London Dry created with bartenders in mind, designed from the ground up to shine in cocktails while still respecting the traditions of classic gin. Developed by Simon Ford in collaboration with master distiller Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers, it combines craft knowledge with practical design. The result is a gin that has become a favorite in bars worldwide for its balance, versatility, and thoughtful construction.

Distilled with nine botanicals—juniper, coriander, bitter orange, lemon, grapefruit, angelica, cassia, jasmine, and orris root—it delivers both structure and nuance. Bottled at 45% ABV, it has enough strength to carry flavor through complex drinks without overwhelming. On the nose, it is bright and citrus-forward, with clear juniper and spice. The palate is layered and balanced, showing juniper, grapefruit zest, soft florals, and earthy spice over a clean, rounded body. The finish is crisp and lingering, with citrus and gentle botanicals remaining.

Every detail of Fords reflects its bartender-first philosophy. The bottle is designed for functionality behind the bar, with easy handling and measurement markers, while the liquid itself was tested and refined in countless classic cocktails—from Martinis to Negronis, Gimlets to Tom Collins—to ensure versatility.

Fords London Dry Gin stands as both a nod to tradition and a tool for innovation. It respects the juniper backbone essential to the style while offering a modern brightness and balance that make it an indispensable gin for today’s cocktail culture.

Tasting Notes

Fords London Dry Gin is crafted with a carefully balanced blend of nine botanicals, including juniper, coriander, grapefruit peel, jasmine, angelica, lemon peel, orris root, cassia, and bitter orange peel. On the nose, it’s classic and aromatic, with fresh juniper leading, lifted by bright citrus and soft floral notes. The palate is crisp and layered—juniper and coriander at the core, complemented by zesty grapefruit, subtle spice, and a delicate floral lift. Medium-bodied and versatile, it offers a smooth texture designed for both cocktails and sipping. The finish is clean, refreshing, and slightly spiced, with citrus and juniper lingering elegantly.

Food Pairings

The bright and versatile nature of Fords Gin makes it an excellent partner for a wide range of flavors. As a starter, pair with oysters, smoked salmon canapés, or fresh goat cheese with herbs. For a main course, it complements grilled sea bass with lemon, roast chicken with herbs, or light pasta with olive oil and citrus zest. With cheese, it works beautifully alongside creamy chèvre, feta, or young manchego, where citrus and botanicals cut through richness. For dessert, it pairs surprisingly well with lemon tart, shortbread, or elderflower panna cotta, enhancing bright and floral elements.

Fords Gin

Fords Gin was created by Simon Ford, a bartender who thought there was no gin out there versatile enough to work beautifully in all the classic cocktails. He teamed up with Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers, making use of Maxwell’s long family heritage in gin-making, and together they designed Fords to be a “cocktail gin” above all — made with input from bartenders, tested in drinks, not just neat.

The gin uses nine botanicals: juniper and coriander seed provide the backbone; citrus peels (lemon, bitter orange, grapefruit) add brightness; jasmine and orris root bring floral and grounding depth; angelica and cassia add spice and structure. It’s distilled carefully, steeped to bring out the oils, then diluted with pure spring water before bottling at 45 % ABV, giving it more punch than many London Dry gins so that its flavor carries through in mixed drinks.

Fords’ packaging and design reflect its mission: the bottle is built to be usable behind the bar (good grip, markings, shape), not just pretty. The branding leans into craft cocktail culture; it aims to be familiar to gin lovers but also a tool for bartenders.

The brand sits somewhere between tradition and modern bartending culture. It respects London Dry rules but isn’t stuck in “old-school” rigidity. It’s made to shine in a Negroni, a Gimlet, a Gin & Tonic, or any cocktail where gin needs to be expressive, not just a neutral spirit.
