La Gritona Reposado Tequila

La Gritona Reposado is a small-batch, 100% blue Weber agave tequila made in the highlands of Jalisco under the direction of master distiller Melly Barajas, one of the few women leading a tequila distillery in Mexico. It is a tequila built on authenticity, independence, and craft, designed for those who want a spirit that refuses to be overly polished or manipulated.

The agaves used for La Gritona are harvested after eight to ten years of growth, slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens, naturally fermented, and double-distilled in copper stills. The reposado expression is rested for eight months in reused American whiskey barrels, which impart subtle oak and spice without overwhelming the natural agave character. The result is a tequila that remains fresh, vibrant, and true to its raw materials. Bottled at 40% ABV, it carries a smooth yet bold profile.

The flavor is honest and direct—ripe cooked agave balanced with hints of vanilla, caramel, and light oak, alongside earthy and herbal tones that speak to its highland origin. The finish is clean and persistent, highlighting agave rather than masking it.

La Gritona’s distinctive green bottles are hand-blown from recycled glass in Guadalajara, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to sustainability and artisanal values. Each batch is limited and carefully overseen, making it a tequila that reflects both tradition and the individuality of its makers.

It stands apart from mass-market tequilas by refusing additives or shortcuts, offering drinkers a spirit that is unpretentious, honest, and deeply connected to Mexican heritage and craft.

La Gritona Tequila

La Gritona is a distinctive, small-batch tequila brand celebrated for its authenticity, independence, and commitment to traditional methods. Produced in the highlands of Jalisco, it is crafted under the direction of master distiller Melly Barajas, one of the few female distillers in Mexico leading her own operation. This gives La Gritona a unique position in a category historically dominated by large-scale, male-led producers.

The tequila is made from mature blue Weber agave harvested after 8–10 years of growth, ensuring depth of flavor. After slow cooking in brick ovens, the agave is fermented naturally and distilled in small copper stills. The Reposado expression is aged for 8 months in reused American whiskey barrels, giving it a subtle oak influence without overpowering the natural brightness of the agave.

Beyond the liquid, La Gritona emphasizes sustainability and craftsmanship. The distinctive green glass bottles are hand-blown from recycled glass at a local Guadalajara facility, reinforcing the brand’s eco-conscious and artisanal approach. Each element of production is overseen on a small scale, with careful attention to detail.

Unlike many mainstream tequilas, La Gritona avoids additives, coloring, or artificial sweeteners. This results in a clean, honest flavor that appeals to purists and enthusiasts seeking authenticity over mass-market appeal.

Today, La Gritona has earned a strong following among bartenders, tequila connoisseurs, and consumers who value integrity, heritage, and craft. It stands as both a celebration of traditional tequila-making and a symbol of independent, women-led innovation in the industry.
